Sunday Snippet, Melting the Millionaire’s Heart, Contemporary Romance

Hi, Sunday Snippet folk! After an absence, I’m back this week with a snippet from my Entangled contemporary romance, Melting the Millionaire’s Heart. I’m excerpting this story for a couple of reasons. First, it’s a New Year’s Eve story, so it’s timely. Second, the sequel to this book, The Mason Dixon Line, comes out in February. Enjoy!
In this scene, the heroine, Kayla, is on her way to a fundraiser at a wealthy man’s estate when she wrecks her car in snowy weather. She’d been dreading the fundraiser anyway because her ex-boyfriend Steve and his new girlfriend were going to be there, and she’s just learned that he’s just married his new girlfriend. We find her on a deserted, cold road, looking for help after her accident:

Twenty minutes later, she wished she’d chosen a more
practical outfit. She wouldn’t have worn heeled leather boots,
a short skirt, and a silky blouse if she’d known she’d be hiking
across frozen tundra. Her main goal had been to look hot.
That way, when she showed up alone, Steve and Eve would
think it was by choice, not because she couldn’t get a date.
Yeah, right. She wasn’t hot. She was so un-hot, it was
almost funny. Matter of fact, she was freezing.

About Linda Morris

Linda Morris is a multipublished writer of contemporary and historical romance. She writes stories with heart and heat, and a joke or two thrown in. When she's not writing, working, or mommying, she's doing yoga, reading, working in her flower garden, or baking delicious things she probably shouldn't eat. A beat-up old copy of Kathleen Woodiwiss's "Ashes in the Wind" that her mom bought for her at a garage sale years ago was her "gateway drug" into the world of romance novels. Her all-time favorite romance writers include Laura Kinsale, Patricia Gaffney, Elizabeth Delancey, and Marjorie Ferrell. Current favorites include Julie Anne Long, Erin McCarthy, and Shannon McKenna.

Poor woman, cool puns (ahem). 😀

Pride is good for a lot of things, but keeping yourself warm isn’t one of ’em.

  4. P.T. Wyant says:

And THIS is why I dress for the weather. *glares at the thermometer and the falling white stuff* (Well, that, and the fact that I have no fashion sense whatsoever. LOL)

Great start to the story. It put me right there with her.

  5. Ally says:

  8. Trying to look hot for your ex is never a good idea. I like how it back fired.
